Tropical Rainforest Forest Floor Layer
The tropical rainforest floor layer or forest floor is the ground layer of this biome.
Tropical rainforest forest floor layer. The floor is relatively clear of vegetation due to the deep darkness created by perhaps 100 feet 30 m of canopy vegetation above. Shade tolerant shrubs small trees woody vines and herbs comprise the vegetation of this layer. It lies beneath the emergent canopy and understory layers which is the reason why almost no sunlight reaches this area. It is actually rather the opposite.
Forest floor layer the forest floor is often blanketed with decaying leaves twigs fallen trees animal scat moss and other detritus. On the floor is a thin layer of fallen leaves seeds fruits and branches that very quickly decomposes. The forest floor is full of animal life that consists of mostly insects. The forest floor receives less than 1 of the earth s sun.
A large number of small mammals birds reptiles and predators like the jaguar inhabit this layer. The tropical rainforest layer between the forest floor and the canopy is the understory layer and it receives only about 5 of the sunlight. The forest floor the forest floor of primary tropical rainforest is rarely the thick tangled jungle of movies and adventure stories. The forest floor receives less than 2 of the sunlight and consequently little grows here except plants adapted to very low light.
Last but not the least is the forest floor layer. The forest floor is the lowest layer of the tropical rainforest. Therefore very few plants grow there other than a few scattered herbs and bushes. The forest floor receives all fallen leaves twigs branches fruits and seeds from the three layers above it.
Decomposers such as termites slugs scorpions worms and fungi thrive on the forest floor. The tropical rainforest floor layer or forest floor is the ground layer of this biome. Only a thin layer. This layer is often described as the darkest and most humid layer of a tropical rainforest as it receives less than 2 of the total sunlight.
Leaves that fall to the forest floor decayquickly. The layers of the rainforest include the emergent layer the canopy the understory and the forest floor.
